Rachel joined JMW as a paralegal in August 2021. She is currently working in the Commercial Road Transport team and is due to begin her training contract with the firm in September 2024.

Rachel assists in advising operators of commercial vehicles across the haulage, coach and bus sectors on a wide range of matters. Rachel is also developing her expertise on environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues and regulations.

Rachel assists on matters such as:

  • Financial standing advice
  • Traffic Commissioner hearings, including Public Inquiries
  • Vocational driver conduct, including driver conduct hearings
  • Border Force’s Clandestine Entrant Civil Penalty Scheme, assisting haulage and coach operators in objecting to penalties, appealing penalties and applying for accreditation through the Civil Penalty Accreditation Scheme
  • Operator Licensing including applications for new Operator’s Licences and variations to existing Operator’s Licences
  • All DVSA related matters and investigations

Rachel has also advised a landlord on their obligations in relation to the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards and their wider environmental obligations. 

Rachel previously graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a first class honours degree in law and went onto study the LPC at Manchester Met graduating with a distinction. Rachel is a member of Pro Manchester’s Green Economy Committee, a group that meet to explore and discuss issues of sustainability, energy and the environment in and around Manchester. She is also a member of Women in Bus and Coach.

In her spare time, Rachel is usually training for some sort of fitness event such as a Hyrox or a Marathon.
